Good Times Christmas Eve, Mini Album ~ Day One

I chose an 8 x 10 binder about 3 inches deep for my project. I used several Sizzix dies and my Cricut to cut the phrases.

Family Christmas Gift ~ One Day at a Time :-)

Ask any young child what the longest night in the world is; and, many of them will tell you the longest night they can remember is Christmas Eve. As a child, I could hardly wait to go to bed... but as soon as I did, I couldn't sleep.  For this year's Family Christmas Gift, I am putting to together a Christmas Eve Good Times Mini Album.  Come back each day to see a different page  :-)

Here is a hint........ popcorn, hot cocoa, movie :-)

Madison Window Die ~ By Poppy Stamps

I love all the new dies from Poppy Stamps.  This window die is a special favorite and comes in 2 sizes.  I made this tag from scraps just to experiment with the Madison Window die....  A special little person in my life said,"It's snowing inside and outside."

The tag was cut with the Tim Holtz Sizzix tag die.  The stamp is from Memory Box.

Cutting Fun Foam with the Cricut Cake

I would love to be able to accent some of Cricut cuts with depth to add dimemsion...... People have tried cutting fun foam in past with the Cricut Expression but have had problems because the grip rings on the Expression compress the fun foam permanently...... So I decided to give it a try on the Cricut Cake Machine which has no grip rings.  Here are the results:

Cricut Cake Expression......... the fun foam has to be taped on the mat.  I used the Cake Mat which has no adhesive........ you can see how small these cuts are...... some of the edges are tattered but I ASSUME that larger cuts would be smoother.

I never got any cut to cut through completely, I had to help them all punch out......... even on multicut 4, 2mm foam

Blade depth = 5 on the deep cut blade holder with deep cut blade
Speed = min
Pressure = Max
Multicut = 4

Often the back of the cut looked a little sharper than the front :-)

This would elminate the problem with the grip rings and you can cut any size foam you want.
I really want a machine that will cut fun foam..... and the two newest cutters seem to have some mixed results and reviews right now...... so i have decided to wait.

Create Word Art on Wordle.com

In a matter of minutes, I was able to generate this word art at Wordle...... Wordle is a free website that allows you to generate "word clouds" and print them or save them in a public gallery.  It's fun and easy to do; and allows for customization.

I can see so many ways to use Wordle to create custom tags for my mini albums....... Enjoy and have fun creating :-)

Indecision ~ Cameo or Zing???

For the last week I have been reading every post I can find about the new cutters from Silhouette and Knk...... the Cameo and Zing.  Neither cutter has debuted with smooth sailing IMHO, although once the user gets all the right stars in alignment the cuts both the Cameo and the Zing are getting are just amazing.....

There is an obvious price difference, as well as, a difference in specifications. If it wasn't for space constraints, I would buy them both....... So instead of deciding, I have decided to not decide :-)

Michele at Paperthreads has done an awesome job comparing machines:
http://www.paperthreads.com/bonus/paperthreads_machine_compare_112008.html.  Unfortunately, it doesn't have the Cameo specifications entered yet.

My dilemma is that I want to be able to cut it all........ with ease :-)  I want beautiful print and cuts; and, I want to be able to cut fun foam and chipboard. I want to be able to cut tiny detailed designs. I want it all in one machine :-)

Vintage... One of a Kind Contest ~ Tag

My Scrappy Friends over at Vintage... 1 of a Kind sponsored a contest at my LSS to kick off their line of amazing vintage embellishment kits.  Each kit is truly one of a kind, and created by hand by the folks at V1.

Here is my entry.  I haven't done altered art previously, so this was a real challenge for me.  I wanted my creation to tell a story.... I used Graphic 45 Baby to Bride paper and created a mythical Baby to Bride Shoppe in downtown San Francisco, circa 1906.  I wanted my tag to look at though it was made from long forgotten "junk' drawer stuff.  I also included a vintage calendar..... they were so popular for every shoppe to give away back in the day.  I got the vintage calendar from the Crafty Secrets.

Here is my picture story of my first altered art creation....... moving from the Vintage... 1 of a Kind Kit I chose, through my initial planning and then the finished product.  Enjoy :-)

New Baby Mini Album

There are two things that every new mother is short on......... sleep and time for herself!  A scrappy friend of mine will be having a baby in December....... what to give a scrapper who probably won't have time to scrap for awhile?  A mini album....... one page each month for a special picture, and a tag for journaling...

This mini was created with DCWV Baby Boy cardstock and Martha Stewart embellies.....
